It has been a very exciting day in Kensington!

This morning, together with Councillor Druh Farrell and the Kensington BRZ, the fully restored historic LIDO café sign was unveiled at small ceremony in Kensington.

More than just a sign, the café was a place out of which many unique memories grew.

“The iconic LIDO sign holds sentimental value for generations of Calgarians. My husband Tom and I had our first date at the LIDO Cafe over 36 years ago! We sat at the bar and shared a vanilla milkshake out of a metal cup while we chose music from the jukebox”, Says Ward 7 Councilor, Druh Farrell. “Very romantic, and obviously good luck for us.”

From the architectural style all the way down to the name, LIDO was designed to respect heritage the Kensington community.

Annie MacInnis, Executive Director of the Kensington BRZ says the community is delighted Battistella is keeping and restoring the iconic LIDO Café sign. “We believe this is another example of the company’s commitment to architecting buildings that compliment not compete with the communities in which they are built – and as a BRZ, we appreciate this initiative”.

As if the sign wasn’t exciting enough!

Today we took the opportunity to announce that the first tenant in LIDO is Red’s Diner. We know that this popular Calgary breakfast restaurant is the perfect fit to carry on the amazing community legacy set forward by the LIDO café.

There are so many amazing things happening at LIDO right now and there is still more to come!

It’s not too late to get into the hottest development in Kensington. There are still seven homes remaining. Check out the floorplans page on the LIDO site, and give us a call at 403.290.1664 for complete pricing details.
