NUDE Presentation Centre Has Landed

In every new condo development, there are not many milestones for our homeowners more exciting than the day you get your possession letter. We get this. Yesterday was that day for us at NUDE by Battistella as our brand new Presentation Centre was carefully placed, piece-by-piece on site at 1319 14th Ave. SW.

But, as is the case for all of our homeowners, there's always work to do between getting our possession notification and throwing our first party. Over the next few weeks our team is working diligently to connect four separate modules into a beautiful show suite and bring our presentation centre to life so you can truly experience the thought and intention that has gone into every aspect of NUDE.

Check out the photos below documenting our sales centre being placed on the site that will be the future home of NUDE by Battistella.

If you've registered, be sure to keep an eye on your inbox next week as we will send out your invite to the NUDE Presentation Centre Grand Opening. And, if you're not already getting news about NUDE, register at battistella.ca/NUDE. Either way, don't make too many plans, because you'll want to be the first on the block in this amazing West Beltline condo.

Your First Look at NUDE by Battistella

Your First Look at NUDE by BattistellaAt NUDE, we’re stripping it back to what matters.

Call it minimalism, call it simplicity or call it a renewed focus on what’s most important. Either way, we’re celebrating lives filled with more — more moments, more experiences, more laughs, more friends. Those are our treasures, and we’re sharing them freely. We’re opting for lives that are as much about what happens at home as what happens outside of it.

Inspired by timeless architecture, NUDE reflects a considered aesthetic where symmetry and articulation combine to create a simple and calm elegance.

At the top, a rooftop garden, BBQ kitchen, and resident lounge all enjoy 360 panoramic views and combine to create a lasting addition to our city’s skyline in the form of a glowing blue band and a proclamation for individuality: Hide Nothing.

NUDE was designed from the inside out. We started with the people who are going to call this building home and created floorplans that reflected their lives — linear kitchens mean larger living spaces, and custom millwork means bigger bedrooms. Balconies with privacy from neighbours and sweeping city views mean spending more time outside.

Suite sizes range from 400 to 800 square feet and place the needs of daily life at the forefront. It’s about having exactly the right amount of space — and the flexibility to layout your furniture to suit the dynamic lifestyle NUDE enables.

Starting in the $190s, NUDE offers 177 homes that cost less money, located in Calgary’s most dynamic neighbourhood, the West Beltline.

More detailed information will be released shortly. To keep up to date on the latest information about NUDE by Battistella, register at Battistella.ca/nude.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our sales centre opening this September.

Live a Big Life with a Calgary Public Library Membership

Live a Big Life with a Calgary Public Library MembershipToo often minimalism is equated with getting rid of possessions. Although there is value in gutting our lives of the unnecessary, minimalism should be connected to a purposeful life of value, contentment, and freedom rather than something that takes away from us. One way to achieve this less-is-actually-more attitude is to use the resources readily available to you.

One of those resources is the Calgary Public Library. The library might not be one of the first things to spring to mind when pursuing a minimalist lifestyle, but it should, and here’s why.

Library cards are free for Calgarians. F-R-E-E. This means you have access to the best materials and spaces — and membership doesn’t cost you a cent! Digital resources alone include e-book loans through Overdrive, Hollywood blockbuster rentals through Hoopla, digital training with Lynda.com, as well as access to PressReader which delivers an endless stream of top news stories to read, share, and discuss.

Across the city, public libraries offer meeting rooms, and even teaching spaces available at hourly rates. This can be freeing for all kinds of small business owners, freelancers and side hustlers who would normally work out of their living but might need an office or boardroom on occasion. The Central Library is also home to the Idea Lab. This transformable space is perfect for brainstorming ideas and solutions for business and creative projects alike and holds up to 25 people.

Perhaps most importantly, the library offers so many ways to be imaginative, to explore, and to be truly present in your very best life. From e-books of the Harry Potter series to hosting your business meetings, Calgary’s Public Libraries have so much value tucked away in a free membership.

Start using your resources to benefit you, and keep your life feeling big and free. So, what are you waiting for? Go ahead and sign up for this most valuable tool today. It’s quick, easy, and can be filled out online, here. Bonus: there’s no physical card to clutter your wallet.

For more minimalist inspiration, be sure to sign up to hear the latest on our West Beltline project, Nude By Battistella.

Beakerhead

Battistella / Beakerhead Collaboration at INK!

Battistella / Beakerhead Collaboration at INK!At Battistella Developments, we have been HUGE fans of Beakerhead for years. Every September, they inspire the imaginations of an entire city and bring to life Calgary's inner-city with the art from local and international artists.

When given the opportunity to work with an organization like this, we jumped at the chance!

We have commissioned Beakerhead's first permanent artwork to live in the lobby of INK. True to Beakerhead form, this interactive art installation will bring life and light to INK’s lobby for all future residents to enjoy.

Homeforest

Titled as a nod to the innovation ecosystem taking root in Calgary, Homeforest, is a tree inspired smash-up of art, science, and engineering culminating in an interactive canopy of colour. The unlikely contrast between the organic and the structured and a subtle play on stereotypes in science and art is an intentional blurring of opposites. How very Beakerhead!

The Artists

This installation team is a combination of artists and scientists. From the Beakerhead Creative Council members Mary Anne Moser and Paul Magnuson to Calgary-based illustrator Mary Haasdyk, artist and engineer Jon Bichel, and a technical team, including Steve Boucher, Chad Shier and Kaylee Novakovski.

Beakerhead

Beakerhead is a local charitable organization that inspires exuberant expressions of human ingenuity and brings people together with the delightfully bizarre combination of science, art, and engineering. Have you heard of Beakerhead’s five-day city-wide event that brings larger than life art and science projects to Calgary? If you didn’t make it last year, mark your calendar for September 19 – 23, 2018!

Follow us on social media as we continue to introduce the creation of Homeforest as it comes to life.

5 Tips When Joining a Condo Board

5 Tips When Joining a Condo BoardIf you live in a condominium, you are part of a community and that community is governed by Bylaws, House Rules, and Policies which are adopted and enforced by the Condominium Board of Directors. If you are thinking of joining your building’s condo board, here are five things to know and expect about the job.

  1. Know your Condominium Bylaws: A condominium’s Bylaws are guidelines for the operation of a building and they must be enforced. Board members are legally obligated to enforce the Bylaws. It’s essential to know what terms are in there.
  2. Be Open Minded: Have an open mind about everyone’s concerns or ideas and not just your own worries; however, you must accept an inevitable fact of communal living - people will disagree.  Disagreements are par for the course and a board member must be able to accept the board majority decision, support the board on that decision, and move on.
  3. Communicate with Residents: The fewer people who know about board decisions, the less likely they will be to support them.
  4. Meet Good People: People who volunteer on condo boards will come from diverse employment and social backgrounds and most board members will find their community and lives enriched by knowing one another.
  5. Make an Impact: A building’s management company will have a big impact on the day-to-day running of a building but the condo board works closely with that company and will provide guidance and direction. Your home is your biggest investment and being on the board will provide you with more insight into what’s going on with your biggest investment, and provide you with the opportunity to influence what happens.

Inside INK: March 2018 Construction Update

Last month we celebrated the completion of INK’s highest point with a Topping Off Ceremony. If you weren’t able to tune in to our live broadcast feel free to check out the quick recap here.

There is so much going on inside the building now. Read on for a floor-by-floor summary:

Rooftop - East View
  • Parkade – The elevator will be arriving in the next month. Once it has been assembled and installed the team can begin finishing work throughout the parkade (lights, paint, storage lockers, etc.)
  • Main Floor – The team is currently focused on the tower above before completing more of the main floor.
  • 2nd Floor –Kitchen and bathroom cabinets have been installed. Ducting and venting are going in. Finishing carpenters are putting trim up around doors.
  • 3rd Floor – Mudding and taping is complete and the walls have been primed
2nd floor - Kitchens and venting installation

(sanded and first coat of paint). Cabinets have been delivered and will be installed shortly.

  • 4th Floor – Drywall has been hung and the team is mudding and taping all the seams. There is now power in each suite (currently being used for space heaters).
  • 5th Floor – Drywall is going in. Check out the image of the Roxul insulation used in the party wall system between units. This is the highest STC (Sound Transmission Class) rating insulation on the market!
  • 6th Floor – Drywall is being installed and the floor is up next for City inspection before moving onto the next phase.
  • 7th Floor – Rough-ins are going on and electricians are pulling wires through walls. Drywall has started being hung.
  • 8th Floor – The team is just finishing framing in the walls on this floor with steel studs.
  • 9th Floor – Chalk lines have been drawn on the floor delineating where the walls will be in and between units. Steel studs will be installed on those lines next.
  • 10th Floor – windows are in and the floor is all sealed. Tidying is in progress as the team gets ready to start laying out walls.
  • 11th Floor – The team is prepping and installing windows.
  • 12th Floor – Windows have been delivered and are waiting for install.

    Rooftop - Planters being installed
  • 13th Floor – Fan coils are being mounted on the ceilings.
  • 14th Floor – Plumbing is being installed.
  • Rooftop – The roof is being sealed with a hot rubber roof system. This is the best system available and is perfect for sky-high gardens like INK’s. The gardens planters are being formed from plywood with concrete coming next.

Things are still on track for completion of INK late Summer / early Fall this year!
